Have Questions?
FAQ
Do you have a deposit fee?
A. Yes, like most photographers I also have a deposit. However It's only for Weddings and Elopements. The fee is a generous $500 down. When I agree to photograph your wedding I'm agreeing to not work elsewhere that day. If in the event you cancel or pick another photographer I'm out of work that day and so the $500 is kept as compensation. It's a lot less than most photographers which means I take on a lot of risk.
How do you photograph weddings?
A. I shoot to capture the story your wedding tells. I aim to be invisible and capture the day as it unfolds whether that be cutting the cake with a rusty axe or your second cousin twice removed feeding the family dog the last of the cupcakes under the table. I'm there to help you on your special day and will do my best to identify good photo opportunities. I get that weddings are crazy and schedule packed. One thing you can do to help me is factor in about 5-10 minutes for group photos and help me identify the two sides of the family, and I can take care of making them smile for the camera.
Where are you based and do you travel?
A. I currently reside in Missoula MT. I love to travel and take road trips, so naturally If your session is far away I'm willing to travel. If I have to go farther than 200 miles I'd ask that you pay for my travel expenses, hotel if necessary, gas, or provide transportation for me.
When will we get our photos?
A. For engagement, senior, or other shoots I can get those back to you within 1-3 weeks.
For your wedding or elopement, as soon as I can back up the photos, you will get a few sneak peaks to share with everyone. The rest you will receive in an online gallery link with all your edited photos within 5-12 weeks, with 12 weeks being the absolute latest. It is almost always done way sooner, but it depends on the season, how big your wedding is and how big my backlog is.
This is also because my job really begins after the wedding, in the editing chair.
Organizing, culling, making sure nobody blinked in each frame, editing, removing distracting telephone poles, checking skin tones and color accuracy can take a while. Also I have OCD and its very hard to deliver something that has not been meticulously cared for by me. You can download and share all the photos from the gallery link I send you when they are ready.
How many pictures will we receive?
A. Depending on how big your wedding party is you will receive anywhere from 300-600 photos all organized into albums for you and your friends and family. for engagements or casual shoots that number is about 60-100. I pick the very best of the best photos but I will often leave my clients with variety.
A. because I want you to get what your paying for.
B. Because photography is subjective.
What quality can I expect?
A. The simple answer: The best!
My degree is in photojournalism and my professors worked for National Geographic and I learned a lot from them.
You will get my best effort from shoot to finish. The cameras I use have more than enough resolution to make that giant print that you are going to want to hang on your wall. When editing the images I work on a display that is Calman verified, which means I can see skin tones and colors as they actually are which makes corrections more precise.
Also, I use the latest tech from the industry leading company in color science, Datacolor. This helps ensure the images I deliver are toned accurately from screen to screen and can help deliver a better print quality.
Yes, I take color seriously.
Do you keep our photos after we get them?
A. After 3 months, and I see that you have downloaded them I will typically delete most of the photos with the exception of some that I may want to keep for my portfolio.
If you don't want me to use your photos in my portfolio, I'm more than happy to abide by your wishes you just need to tell me.
Please make copies of the photos you really care about. physical prints are also a really good Idea because every photographers nightmare: "bit rot" is a real thing and it can corrupt folders of images that sit on your laptop for years without being accessed. Seriously.
Issues Downloading Photos?
A. Online galleries are how I typically like to send photos. You should receive a working password and pin to download them. If for whatever reason you cannot get access to them please reach out to me, I am only human and sometimes I make mistakes.
What if life happens and we have to reschedule?
A. I understand that plans change, venues shift, and weather is unpredictable. That’s why every booking includes a free reschedule. If you need to change your date, we migrate your entire deposit to your new date instantly with zero fees, subject only to my calendar availability.
Do you shoot boudoir?
A. No.
LGBTQ+ unions and same sex weddings?
A. I specialize in traditional weddings.
Do you shoot portraits on film?
A. I am excited to bring the nostalgic, quality of analog photography to portrait shoots and couples marrying across the state.
You just choose how many rolls you want me to shoot it's $120 for one roll which includes the lab fee and then an additional $35 for each additional roll.
Whether you are planning an intimate Glacier National Park elopement or a ranch wedding in Bozeman. It's simply going to look even better on 35mm film. It just will!
What kind of film camera do you have? its not a cheap disposable is it?
A. The film camera I use is the old reliable Nikon Fm2. War photographers loved the Nikon F series cameras not only because they doubled as extra body armor but because they were seriously well made.
The very famous photo Afghan Girl by photojournalist Steve McCurry was shot on the same exact camera I use for weddings.
Do you have a favorite film stock? The film stocks I typically use are:
Kodak Gold
Kodak Color plus
Kodak Portra
Ilford delta (B&W)
Favorite movies and TV shows?
A. My favorite movies of all time are:
A knights Tale, Shanghai Knights, Megamind and Ford v Ferrari.
I love Breaking bad and Better Call Saul
Do you have a question?
A. Vix ut utinam feugait. Eu scribentur liberavisse nec. Dico fugit nostro cu pri, no putent nemore mel, ius at minim molestiae
Do you travel for weddings outside of Helena?
A. Yes! As a Montana photographer, I frequently travel to Bozeman, Missoula, Whitefish, and Glacier National Park for weddings, family photos and commercial work
What happens if it rains or there is bad weather on our wedding day?
A. As a Montana wedding photographer, I understand our states unpredictable weather.
Its very possible that we get unexpected rain in Helena, sudden wind in Whitefish, or shifting skies in Glacier National Park. Unexpected weather can actually make some cinematic and romantic imagery.
If its overcast:
We can embrace the mood. fog, and overcast skies actually create incredibly flattering, soft light. Its like having a giant softbox. I also deliver black and white photos to my clients, in addition to color, any sort of atmospheric weather will look amazing in black and white
If its windy:
If its not too gusty we can use the wind to our advantage and make the brides dress look more elegant giving it that windswept look.
If it rains:
I have got photo-friendly umbrellas you can borrow: when weather is a concern I try remember to bring them as they look beautiful in portraits and keep you dry.
If its a heavy storm:
We will simply adjust our portrait schedule and the timeline by 15–20 minutes to catch a break in the weather. If all else fails we can make portraits indoors.
After all its your wedding day, it’s a live event, Lets embrace the adventure and capture authentic, real moments you will look back on fondly."
What are your favorite wedding venues in Montana?
A. In Helena, Grizzly Gardens MT, Reeder's Alley, and the Kleffner Ranch. The Barn at Finley Point in Polson.
Where do you photograph weddings?
A. I'm proudly based in Helena, Montana, But my camera goes wherever your love story takes me. I provide full-day coverage for local celebrations, travel statewide, and am passport-ready for destination weddings worldwide.
My primary Montana wedding photography service areas include:
Helena & Central Montana: My home base. From elegant historic venues to scenic lakeside celebrations, I know the light and landscapes of this region well.
Bozeman & Big Sky: A frequent stomping ground. I regularly travel here to shoot luxury ranch weddings and intimate mountain resort celebrations.
Paradise Valley & Livingston: Documenting timeless romance along the breathtaking, dramatic backdrops of the Yellowstone River.
Missoula & Western Montana: Vibrant, candid storytelling surrounded by the forested peaks and rivers of western valleys.
Pet-Friendly Family Photos? will you take photos of us and our dog at the wedding?
A. Yes, Absolutely we can photograph your pets! As long as our photo location or venue allows it, I'm happy to offer pet-friendly family photos and wedding portraits .
Logistically, including dogs or other pets in portraits can be a little challenging, but it is always worth it. To ensure a smooth session, it's best if your pets are good with basic commands and have a spot spot to hang out until its their turn.
Pro tip for dog photography: Bring along their absolute favorite toy or treat! I can hold it right above my lens to get their full attention and capture those perfect, expressions.
How do you make sure our photos are safe?
A. Before they are even transferred to a computer/laptop the camera will write a redundant back up copy to another sd card. meaning there are two copies on two cards before I leave the wedding venue. when the entire day is done. i take one sd card out and it stays with me in a case and the other one stays in the camera until these are backed up on the cloud and a laptop, sometimes I will make a cloud backup before I leave the venue. When you get your photos I archive on my end and you also get an online gallery that's good for ten years.
Do you have a question?
A. What if we are incredibly camera-shy and bad at posing?A: 95% of the couples you see in our portfolio said the exact same thing. You do not need to know how to model. Every collection includes our signature Art of Connection Posing Blueprint. We use a calm, movement-based framework that completely eliminates stiff, awkward posing so you can just enjoy being together.
