Lookout Photography

observing and capturing life's Moments

My business started back in 2019, taking inspiration from Montana’s capital city monument: a fire lookout tower called the “Guardian of the Gulch.”

I decided being on the "lookout" is very much in line with the kind of work I do as a photographer. It's being able to find an image and freeze it at the right moment. My favorite part about this kind of work is showing people what I was able to see.

Hi, I am Chris

I'm a born and raised Montanan and a graduate from the University of Montana with a BA in photojournalism. Last year I ranked in the top 20 for best college photographer in the Hearst Journalism Awards.  I love photography for the ability to express the unique way I see the world.

When I'm not doing journalism stuff you can find me doing weddings and portrait photography with my small business. I look forward to meeting you and hopefully working with you.

Check out my portfolio of past work to see my shooting style. If you love what you see, book an appointment today!

A few more things I think you will appreciate about me

I don't watermark my images. That drives me nuts.

I give you all the good ones. no more picking 5 images locked behind a paywall, its not splash mountain, or a kiosk at a resort. they are your images that you paid me to take, for you.

I like my coffee black and I'm old school. I love to shoot traditional weddings where husbands answer the call to love their wives sacrificially just as Christ loved the Church. (Ephesians 5:25)

I prefer moments and images that evoke feeling rather than images that are only just technically good.

I don't rush "You want it fast or you want it good? We no rush. You no rush a Michelangelo, you no rush a Leonardo—you no rush a Finucci" (Oscar, directed by john 1991)
